Relationship Coaching

Any relationship requires nurturing, understanding and compassion in order to be successful.

The focus of relationship coaching is to identify the presence of dissatisfaction and distress in the relationship. Then to devise and implement a plan, with the sole objective to improve or alleviate the symptoms and restore the relationship to a healthier level of functioning.

Relationship coaching can be short term. You may need only a few sessions to help you weather a crisis, or you may need a number of sessions, particularly if your relationship has deteriorated. Illness, infidelity, sex, anger, communication problems — all can contribute to distress in marriages or other relationships.

Although relationship coaching focuses on the problems existing in the relationship between two people, these relationship problems often involve individual issues which can also be looked at and dealt with.

The major risk of relationship coaching is lack of improvement or return to dysfunctional behaviour. This tends not to occur unless there is a breakdown in communication or if one or both people are resistant to long-term change. Normal progression is relief from symptomatic behaviours that cause marital discourse, distress, and difficulties. The couple is restored to healthier interactions and behaviours are adjusted to produce a happier balance within the relationship.
