Frequently Asked Questions about Hypnosis

Q) What is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a separate, altered state of consciousness. You are not asleep, you are not awake. You are in a 'trance', which is a state of mind in which a hypnotised person is able to free his or her mind from the constraints of their five senses and preconceptions. You experience your simple, core consciousness. Typically the sensation is described as relaxing, blissful, dreamy or "I just felt different". Hypnotism is the process of inducing a hypnotic trance.

Q) What is hypnotherapy?
A defining aspect of hypnosis is an increase in the client's suggestibility, ability to concentrate and an often astounding memory improvement. Hypnotherapy makes use of these qualities to help you literally change your mind, removing limiting or unproductive beliefs and behavioural patterns. These new ways of thinking then become the foundation for thought and behaviour. This allows for virtually limitless change.

Q) Does hypnosis really work?
The short answer is YES. Successes achieved through hypnosis can be startling. It may very well help you make the change you want on the very first session. However, we may suggest further sessions for deeper issues, to reinforce the suggestions or to modify treatment according to your day-to-day experiences between sessions

Q) Does the client remain in control?
You are in control at all times. Actually, you will gain control by easily making the changes that you want with the help of hypnotherapy. Also, it is a well documented fact that people cannot do anything, under the influence of hypnosis that is contrary to their personal values. This means that a hypnotherapist cannot make you violate your own moral/ethical code.
